The Progressive State Governance Project is a collaboration between state and national partners to better understand the key factors that influence progressive governance in cities and states across the country. For phase one of this project, Ktisis Capital interviewed 26 sector leaders to examine challenges and opportunities related to transition planning, co-governance and what it takes to advance a progressive agenda nationwide. Our inquiry has found that despite strategic investments and meaningful progressive victories in recent years, public policy progress has been limited by a lack of coherence within the democracy sector, as well as by significant gaps in infrastructure, education, and funding. This report explores what it takes to navigate leadership transitions effectively and how the field may adapt to ensure more effective co-governance efforts in the future.
